Diagram Settings

The following settings will change the what kind of results are displayed in the Resultant Forces Graph.

(1) Force Components

Total  This will plot the vector sum of the Tension, Transverse and Pole forces

Tension  This will plot the force effect of tension component on pole

Transverse  This will plot the force effect of transverse component on pole

Pole  This will plot the force effect of wind effect on pole

(2) Diagram Mode

Force Direction  The points in the graph are a plot of force vectors, where the distance from the centre is the force magnitude, and the direction is the force direction (not wind direction).

Wind Direction  The points in the graph are a plot of force vectors, where the distance from centre is magnitude, direction is Wind Source direction (not force direction).

(3) Apply Limit Factors

When ticked, the magnitude of the forces plotted will be forces with the limit state multipliers applied, i.e. it will be a plot of Limit State Result.

When un-ticked, the magnitude of the forces plotted will be base forces without the limit state multipliers applied, i.e. it will be a plot of Base Forces.

Calculation Settings

(4) Tip Load Calculation Method

Direction-Less  This is based naive calculation method where it assumes the angle of incidence between the wind and conductor is always 90°, regardless of the arrangement of the conductors on the pole. This method will only produce one result, therefore there will be no plotted graph, only a single force arrow.

Direction Sampling (default)  in this calculation method, the effect of wind is evaluated at even intervals all around the pole. This method will produce a large number results (as specified in (5) Number of Samples), and the maximum result is determined as the maximum tip load force.

(5) Number of Samples

Applicable to Direction Sampling Tip Load Calculation Method only. Number of results to be calculated per 5 degree of around the pole. For example, for a input of 2, a force result is evaluated every 2.5 degree increment around the pole. This will give a total of 144 force results evaluated at 2.5 degree increments around the pole.
