There are multiple ways to create a ground/terrain profile. In Neara, users can import a survey file, DXF file and LiDAR.

In this example, we will be talking about how users can create a ground/terrain profile using the terrain tool. The terrain tool allows users to set up their own terrain profile especially if you do not have a survey/DXF/LiDAR file that details the ground terrain. Instead, you can place a terrain point and specify it's x,y and z values as required.

When using the terrain tool you can add feature points of the following types:

Ground, Water and Road feature points create a ground profile.

Before we place a terrain point, it will be best if we import an overlay image. We can use a DXF file or a Google Maps to overlay an image.

DXF OVERLAY

You can import a DXF file by selecting Project>Import from DXF and select Overlay once you have chosen your DXF file.

GOOGLE MAP OVERLAY

You can also import a google map overlay by selecting the map tool on the left-hand side toolbar. Then search up your design area using the search bar at the top. Click once on a location on the map to load the overlay.

After this, enter in an EPSG code should be entered in to initiate a coordinate system. This can be done by selecting edit as shown in the below image.

You will then be presented with the following pop-up. Enter in the relevant EPSG code for your area. We use 28356 for NSW. Go ahead and select Derive Design Coord Centre From Lat/Lng as we do not have a coordinate centre at the moment and select Apply And. This will then give your design a coordinate system. We use the other option when we have a coordinate centre if we have already imported a survey file with eastings and northings or if we have inputted an object into the design area with an easting and northing.

Select perspective view to view the map overlay.

CREATING A GROUND PROFILE

1. Select the Terrain tool

2. Select the type of feature point you would like to place down (Ground, Water, Road)

3. Place down a couple of feature/terrain points by clicking a point on the map overlay

4. Specify the x and y coordinates and the z height of the feature points

We can also interpolate the ground between two terrain points when they are far away and we want to assume a continuous profile between the two points.

5. Place a feature point away from the existing feature points

6. Select the feature point and click interpolate terrain points

7. Select the other feature point that you want to interpolate terrain points with
