The map tool allows you to achieve the following functions:

  • Adding a map overlay to your design
  • Georeferencing a map overlay (giving it meaningful coordinates)

Adding a map overlay to your design

If you are starting a new design without any coordinate data (survey, DXF, LiDAR files) then you will do the following:

  1. Click the map icon on the left
  2. Search in the address in the search bar and click a point on the map to bring in that area

Once you have selected an area on the map the software will then overlay this area of the map onto your design. Switch back to perspective view to see this change.

If you are starting a new design with coordinate data, do the following:

  1. Import your data (survey, DXF, LiDAR, KML) through the Project Menu button
  2. Select the Survey tool
  3. Apply an EPSG code and select Google Maps overlay (this georeferences the map overlay)

Georeferencing your map overlay

To apply a meaningful coordinate system to your map overlay, do the following:

  1. Select edit in the map tool
  2. Enter in your EPSG code in the pop-up
  3. Select Derive Design Coord Centre from Lat/Lng from the drop-down
  4. Select Apply, and:

By pressing Apply, and - you would have georeferenced your map overlay with meaningful coordinates.
